The church dates back to 1506, as a plaque records. For the greater convenience of the inhabitants, the parish seat was transferred here from the older church of Santa Maria a Toro.
Construction work was completed in 1568, based on a design by the architect Pignaloso Cafaro from Cava, who worked mainly on the apse area.
In 1592 the monastery adjacent to the parish church was built. In 1612 (or 1616) the first nuns entered.
Extensively restored in the 18th century, it retains a few fine works such as the 16th-century terracotta statue of the Madonna della Grazia.
On the high altar, a 16th-century panel painting by the painter Marco Cardisco depicts the Annunciation.
Of remarkable value is the portal with sculptural decoration featuring grotesques, floral motifs and historical-hagiographic figurative subjects.
